Background of the Study

Technological advancements have revolutionized the music industry worldwide, significantly influencing indigenous music production. In Asaba, modern digital tools and production techniques are reshaping how traditional music is composed, recorded, and distributed (Okpara, 2023). These innovations offer indigenous musicians enhanced creative opportunities, improved recording quality, and broader market access (Ejiogu, 2024). However, the rapid integration of technology also poses challenges; the risk of diluting cultural authenticity and traditional musical elements has become a growing concern (Ibe, 2025). This study examines the impact of technological advancement on indigenous music production in Oshimili South, exploring how local artists balance innovation with cultural preservation and assessing whether technology enhances or undermines the traditional musical identity (Okpara, 2023).

Statement of the Problem

While technological advancements have opened new avenues for indigenous music production in Asaba, there is concern that excessive digitalization may compromise the authenticity of traditional sounds. The commercialization of indigenous music through modern technology risks altering or eroding cultural nuances that have been preserved for generations (Ejiogu, 2024). This study seeks to determine whether the benefits of technological integration outweigh the risks, and how indigenous music can maintain its cultural integrity in the digital era (Ibe, 2025).

Objectives of the Study:

1. To evaluate the impact of technological advancements on indigenous music production.

2. To assess how digitalization influences the authenticity of indigenous musical elements.

3. To recommend strategies for balancing innovation with cultural preservation.

Research Questions:

1. How does technology affect indigenous music production in Asaba?

2. What challenges does digitalization pose to traditional musical authenticity?

3. How can indigenous music maintain cultural integrity amid technological changes?

Research Hypotheses:

1. Technological advancements significantly influence indigenous music production.

2. Increased digitalization is associated with a dilution of traditional musical elements.

3. Strategic integration of technology can preserve cultural authenticity while promoting innovation.

Significance of the Study

This study is significant as it examines the dual impact of technology on indigenous music—highlighting both creative opportunities and risks to cultural authenticity. The findings will inform artists, producers, and policymakers on strategies to harness technological benefits while preserving traditional musical heritage (Okpara, 2023).

Scope and Limitations of the Study:

This study is limited to assessing the effect of technological advancements on indigenous music production in Asaba, focusing solely on local music practices and cultural impacts.

Definitions of Terms:

1. Technological Advancement: The development and application of modern digital tools.

2. Indigenous Music: Traditional music that reflects the cultural heritage of a community.

3. Music Production: The process of creating, recording, and distributing music.
